Position: Piano Department Chair
Status: Full Time (5 days/week) W2 non-exempt. Estimated 32 hours weekly.
Hours: Monday - Friday 2:00PM-8:00PM
Salary: $30-$55 per hour
Tier 1 Lesson: $30-$40 per hour. Tier 2 Lesson $40-$55 per hour.

Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced and passionate pianist and educator to serve as our Piano Department Chair. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the quality and consistency of our piano performance program, as well as coordinating the Minnesota Music Teachers Association (MMTA) exams, festivals, and competitions. You will play a pivotal role in enhancing our students’ musical education and performance experiences by ensuring excellence in instruction, fostering a collaborative environment among faculty, and orchestrating high-quality events that showcase student achievements.
Hours: 3-5 Days per week 2:30PM-8PM (Instruction). 4-8 hours per week (administrative)
Key Responsibilities:
Piano Performance Program Management:
Oversee and continuously improve the curriculum and instructional resources for the piano department.
Provide mentorship, feedback, and professional development opportunities for piano instructors.
Monitor student progress and develop strategies to address individual needs and promote excellence.
MMTA Exams, Festivals, and Competitions Coordination:
Act as the primary liaison with the Minnesota Music Teachers Association for all exam and competition related activities.
Organize, plan, and execute student participation in MMTA exams, ensuring deadlines and requirements are met.
Coordinate school festivals and competitions, including scheduling, logistics, and promotion to maximize student engagement and community involvement.
Collaborate with faculty to ensure lesson plans align with both the school’s standards and MMTA guidelines.
Track and report on student outcomes, departmental performance, and event success.
Curriculum and Program Development:
Review and update the piano curriculum in consultation with faculty, aligning with best practices and emerging trends in music education.
Implement new performance and examination standards that drive both student growth and instructional excellence.
Integrate technology and modern pedagogical techniques to enrich the learning experience.
Faculty Leadership and Collaboration:
Lead faculty meetings to discuss performance, share best practices, and coordinate program improvements.
Foster a supportive, collaborative environment among piano faculty and staff.
Assist in the recruitment, hiring, and training of new piano instructors.
Qualifications:
Bachelors or Master’s degree in Piano Pedagogy, Music Education, or a related field.
Demonstrated excellence in piano performance and a deep understanding of piano pedagogy.
Minimum of 5 years’ professional teaching experience
Familiarity with the Minnesota Music Teachers Association standards and processes.
Exceptional organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of students, parents, and faculty.

Instructors choose between 5 days a week, 3 days a week, or 1 day a week with an average of 10-12 students daily during high volume times of the day (after school and weekends). Positions are also available substitute / short call flexible schedule.

We look for teachers who are masters of their craft and have a strong knowledge of curriculum and pedagogy. Our teachers have the freedom to select the methodology and teaching strategies appropriate for each individual student.
We teach all styles from pop, rock , jazz, country, blues, and classical in our piano lessons.

Our teachers have degrees from some of the most reputable colleges and universities. Degrees in music education and/or instrument performance are preferred.
We look for music teachers with considerable experience successfully teaching students.
MMTA Certification and experience is preferable. Familiarity with RCM or ABRSM is a bonus.
